Google Cut Fake Explicit Image Exposure by Over 70% — What AI Creators Need to Know Now

Google’s search update on non-consensual explicit deepfakes changed what ranks — and what disappears. Google said its ranking changes reduced exposure to explicit fake image results on searches about a specific person by over 70%, and that it would surface high-quality, non-explicit content, such as news articles, instead.

Three changes matter for anyone publishing AI content:

  1. Duplicates get filtered after a removal. If a fake explicit image of a person is removed, Google aims to filter duplicates and similar explicit results for that person, not just the one URL that was reported.
  2. Sites with many removals get demoted. Google uses a high volume of successful non-consensual imagery removals involving a site as a signal to demote other content from that site. One bad section can drag down a whole domain.
  3. Educational content is what Google wants to rank. For risky name-based searches, Google says it aims to promote content that educates people about deepfakes rather than pages offering the deepfakes themselves.

What this means in practice

Websites that build traffic by promising leaked or fake explicit videos of named people are building on a signal Google is actively suppressing. Websites that explain the policy, report scams accurately, and focus their commercial content on fictional, consenting-adult creation are aligned with the direction Google has publicly stated.
